The news on the morning of the concert that Michael Mates had taken ill was not to throw us off course. ‘The show must go on’ and so it did thanks to a masterful performance by William Godfree. Not only did he entertain a packed Rowlands Castle Parish Hall with a wonderful repertoire from ‘Flanders and Swann’ in the first half of the evening but also produced a delightful mix of music and songs from such well-known artists as Noel Coward, Peter Skellern, Richard Stilgoe and Jake Thackray. The venue of the Parish Hall was a ‘first’ for the Friends proved to be a huge success. Over 150 attended and £2,300 was raised on the night.
