Saturday 30th June
The summer weather was perfect for the pre-concert picnics and the audience was well fed and watered before taking their seats for what proved to be a really beautiful concert from the highly talented and accomplished Salieri String Quartet.
The programme included items that ‘sounds familiar’ like the Bach Brandenburg or a ‘treatment’ of a tune in an unusual way such as ‘Dreaming of Greensleeves’, or something which is a fusion of very different musical ideas as in ‘Begin the Beguine’ where Bolero meets Cole Porter. And then there was a simply superb rendition of ‘Stand By Me’ which received especially warm applause. The evening was rounded off with a wonderfully evocative performance of the Pachelbel Canon to leave a highly appreciative audience in buoyant mood as they walked back down the hill and home.
